" MONOMAT Through the Decades"
"A Historical Retrospect"
The history of MONOMAT begins sometime in late 1977 when three friends decided, guided by their courage and faith, to enter the industry. Thus, Athanasiadis Konstantinos, Charalambos Zazelis and Alkiviadis Zisios purchased their first plastic molding press called “MONOMAT165” which became the “godfather” of the company.
The 1980s were a period of fermentation and the acquisition of experience and knowledge by the founders. It led to the transfer to privately owned facilities in the Industrial Area of Thessaloniki and created the guarantees for its entry into the food packaging sector in the following decade with the first packaging for cheese products.
The period from 2000 to 2010 is a milestone for the company. The first injection machines with IML automation and yogurt molds are installed, its privately owned facilities are expanded and it dynamically enters the ice cream production area. From 2011 to 2020, the company begins to grow rapidly, to make its presence felt in the food packaging production area by investing in mechanical equipment, in human resources and by listening to the special needs and the particularity of each of its customers. Somewhere there, the courage and faith shown by the three friends slowly begin to bear fruit to offer them to the new generation.
Thus, from 2021, taking the baton, the 2nd generation aims to provide innovative and sustainable packaging solutions, understanding international developments in terms of the environment and energy, the evolution of know-how, the continuous upgrading of quality and safety. It already follows the new trends that have prevailed in the last decade, especially in the European, but also in the global food packaging market. In accordance with these trends, special emphasis is placed on the effort to reduce weight per package and to maintain the homogeneity of the materials used (PP). In 2024, it has integrated 5 electric machines into its workforce with the aim of reducing its carbon footprint and continues to set high goals guided by the courage and faith that their ancestors taught them.
